La Amistad Behavioral Health Services located in Winter Park, Florida just a few miles from Orlando, offers an open, resort-like campus that strives to create a peaceful atmosphere that is conducive to healing and accommodating the varied needs of our patients.
The treatment program offers adult services that include:
For over 40 years La Amistad has been an industry leader in treating psychiatric and substance abuse needs (co-occurring) from a comprehensive approach. The program has been on the cutting edge of holistic treatment that incorporates traditional psychiatric treatment with an individualized approach that facilitates positive momentum toward meeting an individual’s needs. La Amistad is committed to individualized treatment through an integrated model of traditional 12-Step techniques along therapy that focuses on family, wellness, responsibility, and abstinence.
La Amistad subscribes to the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s definition of addiction which is a primary chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory, and related neurological pathways.
Therefore, the program combines the following modalities: individual psychotherapy, family therapy, medication management, process groups, education groups, peer groups, 24-hour nursing, self-help meetings (including NA & AA) with the use of CBT/DBT inclusive of mindfulness and relaxation. Recreation therapy, equine therapy, yoga, swimming, and other experiential therapies are used to bring the focus on health, lifestyle, and nutrition.
The result is a unique empowering program that has created the opportunity of change for individuals who have become powerless to overcome addiction.
Dedicated and passionate, the staff strives to create change for the patients they serve. The treatment team consists of psychiatrists/addictionalogist, licensed therapists (LCSW/LMHC), certified addiction professionals (CAP), registered nurses (24/7 days a week), certified recreation therapists (CTRS), and psychiatric assistants. We incorporate the services of nutritionists, licensed psychologists, equine therapists, music therapist, yoga instructor, and additional adjunct professionals.
La Amistad’s substance abuse treatment program consists of an assessment phase, a rehabilitative phase, followed by day or evening outpatient programs.
This phase is usually a period which consists of a psychiatric evaluation, a psychosocial evaluation, a substance abuse assessment, a nutritional evaluation, a recreation/leisure skills evaluation, initial treatment plan, introduction to 12-step program (including workbooks), an individual therapy session with the assigned primary therapist, and identify the family role in treatment making contact to schedule family therapy.
No residents are allowed off campus during the assessment phases. This includes outings and AA/NA meetings.
During this phase the treatment team employs the use of multiple treatment methods to not only gain an understanding of unhealthy patterns, but to begin positive momentum toward understanding the emotional/cognitive patterns that drive the addiction. The team also believes that a foundation of knowledge will best assist patients to confront their substance abuse/addiction issues. A strong psycho-educational approach better prepares our patients to encounter the post-discharge challenges for maintaining a healthier lifestyle. This phase usually begins in the residential program, with the patient transitioning back home and attending the partial hospitalization program and then moving into intensive outpatient.
